M-C Pavone Bakelite
Ordering from Cattew Our Shows Our eBay items About Lea Stein About Pavone About Bakelite

Paris-based Marie-Christine Pavone produces jewellery made from Galalith. This material was discovered by two German scientists who solidified milk casein by adding small amounts of formaldehyde. Galalith is a combination of 'gala', Greek for milk and 'lithos', Greek for stone. Galalith pre-dates bakelite and was originally used to make everyday items such as buttons and buckles. It accepts colour readily and produces a high gloss finish.

Pavone jewellery designs predominantly feature cats and other animals. They are chunky, fun and highly whimsical. Each item is hand cut and hand painted so no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

Marie-Christine Pavone's work is becoming very popular and is being collected and enjoyed by all ages in all parts of the world.
